Achieving BRCGS Success

26th March 2025
We are immensely proud to announce that alongside our butchery division ‘Celtica’, we have both been provisionally awarded AA Grade, BRCGS Certification.

This achievement reinforces our commitment to continuous development, food safety culture and demonstrates best practices throughout both operations.

MD, Matt Lewis said ‘’We’re absolutely delighted with this recognition, not only does this reflect the incredible hard work of our team, but it also provides Castell Howell customers with complete peace of mind that they will receive the very highest level of service and products every time.’’

During the audits, we were assessed on elements such as Senior Management Commitment and Continual Improvement, Hazard & Risk Analysis, Product Safety and Operational and Personnel Standards.

Richard Davies, Technical Director added ‘’This certification is testament to the continued efforts of our dedicated workforce, effectively co-ordinated by Jayne Griffiths and Zach Lowther. As a company, we continue to invest and develop our infrastructure to ensure we can continue to lead the from the front and push the boundaries of what is achievable - this is a prime example of this.''

We cannot wait to proudly display our certificates as a constant reminder of how fortunate we are to have extremely hard working and dedicated staff throughout the company.

Who Are BRCGS?

BRCGS (Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standards) is a leading global food safety certification body, recognised across the food industry. The BRCGS Food Safety Standard is GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) benchmarked, meaning it meets internationally recognised food safety requirements and is trusted by retailers, manufacturers, and food service providers worldwide.

What does AA mean?

BRCGS is a leading food safety certification recognised worldwide. The AA grade is the highest possible rating for an announced audit, showing that we meet the highest standards with minimal non-conformances. This gives our customers and stakeholders confidence in the safety and integrity of our products.

This audit is a rigorous multi-day assessment covering all areas of our food safety and quality management system. We had to demonstrate our understanding of the standard, interpret its requirements correctly, and provide evidence that our systems and actions have been effectively maintained throughout the entire certification period. This includes reviewing documentation, process controls, staff training, traceability exercises, and compliance with hygiene and site standards.
